…Police assure security for NSE’s 2026 conference in Maiduguri
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to advance community policing, enhance professional training and improve emergency response across the country.
The IGP made the call on Monday while receiving the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and members of the Society’s leadership during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by Engr. Rabiu, comprised Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, Engr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidan Wudil, Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim Dutsinma, Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, Engr. Ademola Isaac Agoro, Engr. Dauda Musa and Engr. Musa Ibrahim Musa.
During the meeting, both organisations explored areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening community policing, expanding capacity-building initiatives for police personnel and improving emergency response and disaster management.
Speaking on behalf of the Society, Engr. Rabiu conveyed the goodwill of the NSE Council and its members to the Inspector-General and congratulated him on the progress recorded by the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership.
He commended the longstanding relationship between the Society and the Police, acknowledging the Force’s consistent support for the engineering profession over the years.
Rabiu also informed the Inspector-General of the Society’s forthcoming 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, and appealed for the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force in providing security and participating in the event.
Responding, IGP Disu described engineers as indispensable partners in national development and commended members of the profession for their contributions to Nigeria’s growth.
He paid tribute to police officers serving in Maiduguri, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifices in maintaining security, and assured the Society that the Nigeria Police Force would provide adequate security for the conference.
The Inspector-General further urged the Nigerian Society of Engineers to support the Force’s community policing strategy through sustained public enlightenment initiatives and encouraged the Society to involve the Police in the planning and execution of its training programmes to strengthen the capacity of officers.
He also identified emergency response and disaster management as critical areas where both institutions could work together to improve public safety and strengthen national resilience.
The meeting underscored the growing emphasis on partnerships between the Nigeria Police Force and professional bodies as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety, institutional capacity and community engagement across the country.
