The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), under the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, announced major operational achievements for late July to early August 2026, highlighting the arrest of 161 suspects nationwide, the rescue of 95 kidnapped victims, and the recovery of 27 firearms.
He noted that 161 individuals were apprehended nationwide for crimes including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cultism, murder, and armed robbery.
In the same vein, 8 notorious criminals were neutralized during decisive tactical engagements and rapid response operations while coordinated rescue and bush-combing operations in Sokoto State (such as at Meikujara village on July 28) and across 11 other states successfully dismantled active bandit and kidnapper enclaves.
Also 95 kidnapped victims were freed through sustained tactical bush-combing operations. 27 firearms recovered, including AK-47 rifles and pump-action guns, alongside 396 rounds of live ammunition.
They recently concluded a specialized Counter-Terrorism Investigations Train-the-Trainer Programme in Rabat, Morocco, running from July 13 to July 31, 2026, in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
