Police arrest 13 suspects in Abia for armed robbery, vandalism, other crimes

Abia State Police Command has said that it has arrested 13 suspects for alleged armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and vandalization of government property.

The Command said that operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) intercepted and apprehended a 27-year-old Uchenna Agbneiwu, a native of Nkume in Orlu local government area of Imo State, but residing at Ubakala, for vandalism.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, PPRO, DSP Maureen Chinaka, made this known in a press statement issued on Wednesday.

She said a vandalized large pipeline concealed with sawdust in a white Toyota Hiace bus was recovered from Uchenna by the Police, stating that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

The Police Spokesperson also said that operatives of the VCRU, Aba North, apprehended a suspect, Williams Ifeanyi of Market Road, Aba, on August 2, 2026 for allegedly accosting and dispossessing a victim of his bag and personal belongings along Market Road by Rail, at gun point.

She said that a pistol and live cartridges were recovered the robbery suspect.

Similarly, the Abia State Police Command said that operatives of the Urratta Divisional Police station arrested other suspects, John Chigozie and David Anyaka for allegedly involving in an armed robbery incident at a hotel in Aba on 01/08/2026, explaining that a pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

It further said that operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Bende Road, who were acting on credible intelligence, apprehended members of a violent criminal group (cultists) during their meeting at Umuezeagwu, Umuahia North.

“The suspects were arrested and the following items were recovered: one pump-action gun, one Beretta pistol, live cartridges, one cutlass, one axe, substances suspected to be hard drugs, walkie-talkies, one face mask, two red berets, and one black beret. Investigation is ongoing”, the PPRO said.
