The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have pledged to strengthen collaboration on public enlightenment, national values and early conflict prevention as part of broader efforts to enhance national security and promote responsible citizenship.
The commitment was made on Friday when the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, paid a visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where both institutions explored areas of cooperation aimed at addressing emerging social and security challenges.
Speaking during the meeting, Issa-Onilu reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility, patriotism and shared national values through sustained public engagement.
He highlighted the Nigeria Identity Project and the National Values Charter as key initiatives designed to strengthen national cohesion and foster a greater sense of collective responsibility among Nigerians.
The NOA Director-General also proposed closer collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in public sensitisation campaigns, intelligence sharing and early conflict prevention, noting that effective communication and community engagement remain essential to sustaining peace and security.
Responding, the Inspector-General of Police stressed that professionalism, respect for human dignity and ethical policing remain central to the ongoing reform efforts within the Nigeria Police Force.
He also underscored the growing importance of responsible social media use, urging Nigerians to verify information before sharing it in order to curb the spread of misinformation and prevent unnecessary tension.
The IGP further called for greater efforts to promote positive values among young people, describing value-based orientation as an important component of crime prevention and nation-building.
Both leaders agreed on the need for sustained collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Orientation Agency to strengthen public trust, advance responsible citizenship and support national development through proactive public engagement and conflict prevention.
