Two Fulani Herders Nabbed By Troops After Attack On Farmers In Plateau

Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested two suspected herders following an alleged attack on residents harvesting crops in Sabon Layi village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 pm on Monday, August 24, 2026, according to a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Makama said the troops, deployed in Sabon Layi under Operation Hard Knock, responded to a distress call reporting an attack allegedly carried out by Fulani herders.

On arriving at the scene, the troops found an elderly woman who had sustained injuries during the incident.

“The troops arrested two suspected herders, while other members of the group reportedly escaped from the area.

“The injured woman was evacuated to the Missionary Hospital in Sabon Layi for medical treatment,” Makama wrote.

The two suspects were later handed over to the Keystone Mangu Divisional Police Command for further investigation and possible legal action.

Security agencies are continuing operations in the area, with efforts focused on maintaining peace and preventing further attacks or escalation in the community.
