Police arrest 10 suspected vandals, recover cables in Abuja

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command have arrested at least 10 suspected vandals in separate operations across communities in the territory.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Josephine Adeh, said the operations were carried out within Kubwa, Wuye and the National Mosque areas.

Several armoured cables and a solar street light vandalised by the suspects have been recovered.

The PPRO explained that on September 2, 2026, a police patrol team from Kubwa Division, while on routine patrol around Bazango-Kubwa, sighted some persons vandalising armoured cables.

In a similar operation, a police patrol team from Wuye Division arrested one Moses Luka while in the act of digging out armoured cables along the road between Magic Land and National Stadium, Abuja.

In another operation, the PPRO said a police surveillance team from Wuse Division arrested four suspects, namely Musa Abdullahi, Suleiman Idris, Aliyu Isa and Muhammed Abdulrahman, around the National Mosque area of the FCT, after they had cut down a solar-powered street light in an attempt to vandalise and remove its components.

She said investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the various syndicates, including the receivers of stolen public infrastructure, are currently ongoing.

“All suspects remain in police custody and will be charged before a court upon conclusion of investigations,” the PPRO said.

This is coming barely two months after the command paraded several suspects for allegedly vandalising public infrastructure within the territory.
