The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on Monday, 7th September 2026, received the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Flutterwave, Mr Olugbenga Agboola, OON, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he formally conferred on him the appointment as National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force under the International Youth Day 2026 – National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative.
The appointment recognises Agboola’s achievements as a technology entrepreneur and his leadership in building Flutterwave into one of Africa’s leading financial technology companies, particularly his contributions to innovation, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and responsible enterprise.
The initiative is aimed at harnessing the influence of credible youth leaders and role models to promote peacebuilding, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and constructive civic participation, while encouraging young Nigerians to reject cybercrime and other forms of criminality and social vices.
Speaking at the occasion, the IGP noted that the appointment reflects the Force’s commitment to engaging young Nigerians as active partners in building safer communities and promoting responsible citizenship. He stressed the importance of creating positive pathways for young people through education, innovation, entrepreneurship and lawful enterprise.
The IGP further emphasised the need to strengthen the technological capacity of young police officers, particularly in understanding emerging technologies and their application to contemporary policing. He noted that developing expertise in digital tools, cyber-related investigative techniques and other emerging technologies would enhance the Force’s capacity to investigate cybercrime, trace digital evidence and respond effectively to technology-enabled criminality.
The IGP charged the new National Youth Ambassador to use his platform and influence to inspire young Nigerians to pursue legitimate opportunities, embrace integrity and responsible innovation, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Responding, Agboola expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him and pledged his support for the objectives of the initiative, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and peaceful civic engagement.
