The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32 year old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, over the alleged brutal abuse of her seven year old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The child was rescued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following the intervention of security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada Obosi, and concerned residents who reportedly discovered the alleged abuse.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Ikenga, “the police received a report in the evening of September 13 concerning alleged child abuse and severe bodily injuries sustained by the seven year old.”
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the child had allegedly been subjected to severe physical abuse, including injuries reportedly inflicted with a hot knife.
Ikenga said following the intervention of community security personnel and residents, the child was rescued from further harm, while her mother was arrested and police action commenced immediately.
He assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and professionally, stressing that the welfare, safety and best interests of the child remained paramount.
The police spokesperson added that the command would ensure that appropriate action is taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
