The Police have explained how three suspects killed four family members during a robbery incident at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State capital.
The three suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward allegedly killed one Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children during robbery incident in their home on 22 September 2026 at about 1900hrs.
The spokesperson for Oyo police command, Ayanlade Olayinka said the suspects were arrested 2 October 2026 at about 1700hrs after police detectives acting on intelligence commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.
Ayanlade said the suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club, which they used in carrying out the attack.
The Oyo Police spokesperson said during the invasion, the suspects robbed the family of ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
“In the course of the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.
“The attack subsequently took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies disposed of in the same river,” the Oyo police Command spokesperson said in the statement.
Ayanlade added that in continuation of the investigation, detectives of the Command visited the scene, where photographs were taken and several exhibits were recovered.
He listed the recovered items from the scene to include the Boxer motorcycle belonging to the murdered family, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club used during the attack. The three suspects were subsequently arrested and detained.
The suspects, according to the police statement, confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.
“The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river,” he said.
The Police spokesman said the suspects and case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
He added that Oyo Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation into the case, with a view to ensuring that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.
