Bauchi police arrest man over alleged rape of 7-year-old girl in Dass

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Mujahid Danjuma, over the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl in Dass Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13, following efforts by police operatives to track him down after he allegedly fled following the incident.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the case was initially reported on September 28 by the victim’s 30-year-old mother, a resident of the Bundot area of Dass LGA.

The mother alleged that the incident occurred on September 25 at about 5 p.m., when Danjuma allegedly lured her daughter into an uncompleted building in the area and sexually assaulted her.

“The victim was rushed to General Hospital Dass where she was examined and penetration was confirmed,” the police statement said.

The command said the suspect fled to an unknown destination after the alleged incident but was subsequently arrested following intelligence-led policing and persistent efforts by operatives.

The police confirmed that Danjuma was in custody as of Tuesday, adding that he would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling crime and protecting vulnerable persons across the state.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The police said investigations into the case were ongoing.
