ISWAP terrorists attack Borno travelers, kidnap one

Terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, have attacked a commercial vehicle along the Maiduguri-Banki road in Borno State.

One person was injured, while the driver of the vehicle was abducted during the attack.

A counter-insurgency expert for Lake Chad, Zagzola Makama, said the attack occurred on February 27 at about 1:15 p.m. around the deserted village of Tufa in Banki Local Government Area.

Speaking to the publication, the driver of the vehicle, with registration number Adamawa JMT 994 YR, Bello Abba, said he was transporting six passengers from Maiduguri to Banki when gunmen on motorcycles emerged from the bush and opened fire on his vehicle.

In an attempt to escape, the driver made a U-turn back to Banki town.

However, during the attack, a passenger, Mohammed Ali Yaye, 38, of Bama town, was shot in the left leg.

The terrorists also abducted another driver, whose identity remains unknown.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai later arrived at the scene, but the attackers had already fled.

The injured victim was initially treated at the Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) in Banki before being referred to the General Hospital in Mora, Cameroon, for further medical attention.
