53-year-old farmer arrested by police for stealing three bags of pineapples in Ogun

A 53-year-old farmer, identified as Oloyede David, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing three bags of pineapples worth N90,000 in Orile-Ilugun, Odeda Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was caught while harvesting the pineapples from a plantation belonging to one Ola Omotayo.

Confirming his arrest on Wednesday, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that officers from the Orile-Ilugun outstation arrested the suspect at around 11:58 am on Tuesday.

Odutola noted that the suspect was spotted by another farmer, who alerted others.

She said, “The farmer who caught the suspect harvesting the pineapples quickly alerted other farmers in the area, who helped apprehend David.

“The suspect was caught with three bags of pineapples, valued at approximately N90,000. The farm owner arrived at the scene soon after and confirmed the theft.”

She added that the farm owner, Omotayo, also alleged that pineapples valued at approximately N650,000 and a submersible pumping machine worth N180,000 had been stolen from her farm in the past.

Odutola stated that David was taken to the police station along with the recovered produce, and the case has been transferred to the Divisional Crime Branch.
