Edo: Police rescue 62 kidnap victims in four months

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command rescued no fewer than 62 kidnap victims between April and July 20, 2025.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, who made this known at a press briefing on Monday in Benin City, said the rescued victims include women and children.

He said the victims were rescued during operations carried out in the forests around Ewohimi, Fugar, Okpella, Uromi, Agenebode and the Benin-Lagos expressway.

According to him, one of the most recent breakthroughs is the rescue of 14 passengers that were kidnapped on the Fugar-Agenebode road.

He explained that in the operation, which involved police tactical teams, vigilante groups and hunters, one of the victims – a 12-year-old girl – was killed due to the reckless violence of the kidnappers.

Agbonika, however, stated that one victim is still unaccounted for while efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the individual.

He commended the patriotic efforts of community vigilantes and hunters who have worked with the Command to achieve the successes recorded.
