The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with alleged attempted culpable homicide and motorcycle theft in the Sabon Layi area of Bauchi metropolis.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday in Bauchi.
He said the incident occurred on July 20, 2025, at 6.00 p.m. when irate youths confronted two individuals suspected of attacking a motorcyclist.
“A team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the scene, leading to the arrest of one suspect, while an accomplice fled.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had boarded a commercial motorcycle with the intent to steal it.
“Upon reaching a predetermined location, they allegedly struck the 30-year-old rider on the head with an axe in an attempt to kill him and escape with his Bajaj motorcycle, bearing registration number KTG 129 UV,” Wakil said.
He added that the victim’s cries for help attracted nearby residents, who quickly mobilised, apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police.
According to Wakil, efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice, while the arrested suspect will be profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
