Security operatives in Katsina State have successfully stopped two planned attacks by armed bandits targeting two villages in Faskari Local Government Area.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu on Saturday.
According to the statement, the villages; Unguwar Dudu, Yartasha, and Buntu were reportedly under threat on Saturday, but the swift response of the police, in collaboration with the military, local vigilantes, and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), prevented the assaults.
“At about 3:00 pm, they received information that suspected armed bandits were preparing to attack Unguwar Dudu village.
“Immediately, the DPO Faskari mobilised a team of police officers in collaboration with the military, the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and the local vigilantes. They rushed to the scene and successfully stopped the bandits before they could strike,” the statement read in part.
“Just two hours later, another alert came in. This time about an attack already underway at Yartasha and Buntu villages, via Daudawa ward.
“The operatives, again in collaboration with the military and the Nigerian Air Force, quickly responded and engaged the bandits in a gun battle. They were able to stop the attack and force the bandits to retreat,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, praised the officers and their partners for their swift action.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to work with other security agencies and stakeholders to protect lives and properties across the state.
