Former IGP, Solomon Arase Dies At 69

A former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Solomon Arase, is dead.

It was gathered that the ex-police boss, who also served as the immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), passed away on Sunday at a private hospital in Abuja.

Dr. Arase, Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, was born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

He studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 1980, before joining the Nigeria Police Force in December 1981. He later obtained a Law degree from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.

Arase retired from the Force on June 21, 2016, after reaching the statutory retirement age.

Details of his demise remain sketchy as of press time, and the Nigeria Police Force is yet to issue an official statement.
