The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 27 additional suspects during ongoing raids on bandits’ hideouts across the troubled Sankera axis of the state.
Security sources disclosed on Wednesday that the latest arrests raise the total number of suspects in custody to 48.
The coordinated operation, codenamed Operation Restore Peace, is being carried out by tactical units of the command under the leadership of the second-in-command of the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Makurdi.
According to the sources, all the suspects are now undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as investigators work to dismantle criminal networks fueling violence in the region.
Police authorities have assured residents that the crackdown will continue until the area is fully secured and law-abiding citizens can move about without fear.
