Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully foiled a bandit attack on Sabon Garin Kwargaba village in Wurno Local Government of Sokoto State, killing several of the assailants in a fierce exchange of fire.
The attack occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on October 7, when a large number of bandits armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the village and began shooting indiscriminately.
Troops stationed at the area were immediately mobilised and engaged the attackers in a prolonged gun duel, forcing them to retreat into the nearby forest with heavy casualties.
“Several of the bandits were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Sadly, one soldier and a woman from the community lost their lives during the encounter,” one of the sources said.
Another soldier who sustained gunshot injuries was evacuated to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, where he is responding to treatment.
The sources further disclosed that additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks and maintain security.
“Troops have launched a bush-combing operation to track down the fleeing bandits and ensure lasting peace in the community,” the sources added.
