Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intercepted a vehicle loaded with substances suspected to be illicit drugs during a routine stop-and-search operation in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the interception occurred on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, around the Anguwan Malama area of Akwanga.
Lt. Zubairu said the ash-coloured Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos) was flagged down by troops at a checkpoint, but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into the nearby bushes upon sighting the soldiers.
“Despite a swift pursuit by the troops, the suspect evaded arrest,” the statement said. “A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana. The vehicle and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation and subsequent handover to relevant authorities.”
The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance, resilience, and professionalism that led to the successful interception.
Gara reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke to ensuring sustained peace and security across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
