The police in Lagos state have arrested a professional boxer simply identified as Bintin who allegedly punched a carpenter to death during a heated argument over a damaged ball in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos state on Saturday, October 25.
Residents of the area say trouble started when the carpenter simply identified as Yellow due to his complexion, damaged a football belonging to the boxer’s son.
The boxer’s wife had called her husband, who was away from home at the time, to report the incident. Immediately he returned, the boxer reportedly confronted Yellow and physically assaulted him before the community leader, Baale, intervened and directed the deceased to replace the damaged ball.
The deceased was said to be on his way to get a new ball when the boxer allegedly dealt him a heavy blow on his forehead. Yellow collapsed immediately and was rushed to the Agbowa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect remained in custody.
