Two police officers have been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for opening fire on a civilian car after stopping the vehicle for inspection at a checkpoint.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesman of the command, explained in a statement that the Adamawa State Police Command received a report of unprofessional conduct by some police personnel deployed to a nipping point attached to Jimeta Divisional Police Headquarters, who were on duty along River Side, Jimeta.
He said preliminary findings revealed that the officers stopped a Mercedes 180 car for a routine search, alleging that the occupants resisted.
He stated that during the encounter, one of the officers acted in a manner prejudicial to discipline by firing gunshots at the vehicle’s tyres — an act considered unnecessary and unprofessional. Fortunately, no injuries were recorded.
Nguroje disclosed that the officers involved have been arrested and taken into custody.
According to the statement: “The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered a thorough investigation into the sad incident.”
The command assured the public that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken upon completion of the investigation.
He added that the Adamawa State Police Command is committed to ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of all citizens.
