Bandits abducted 54 villagers including four pregnant women, children in Niger community.

Armed bandits have allegedly kidnapped 54 farmers, including four pregnant women and children, in Paleta community, Unguwan-Kawo, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered the attack occurred around 1 pm. on Wednesday, November 26.


This incident is occurring barely six days after over 300 students, including their teachers, were abducted from St. Mary Secondary and Primary School in Papiri, Agwara LGA, Niger State.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the gunmen stormed the community shooting sporadically and taking villagers comprised of four pregnant women and children to an unknown location.

A source from the area said that the affected village is just five kilometers from a military camp, and that some victims were abducted while harvesting rice near the camp.

It was further gathered that calls were made to the military base in Erana for assistance, but the personnel arrived at the community after the bandits had completed their operation and escaped with the 54 abducted villagers.

The Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the kidnapping, stating that about 10 persons were abducted by gunmen in the community on Wednesday based on report received..

According to him, “On November 26, 2025 at about 8pm based on report received, suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo & Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local government area”.

He added that effort is being made to rescue the victims.
