Bandits ambush joint security team in Zamfara, officials trapped

Suspected terrorists on Monday attacked a joint security team escorting villagers who had recently regained their freedom in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident was contained in a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the attack occurred at about 7:30 p.m. along the Kunchin Kalgo–Danjibga road while the security team, which included the Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area, was on its way to Danjibga to reunite some villagers from the Keta area with their families after their release from captivity.

The bandits were said to have laid an ambush on the route, apparently having prior knowledge of the movement of the convoy.

Following the attack, the local government chairman and members of his entourage were reportedly trapped in Danjibga, with some persons feared to have been abducted.

Some vehicles were also believed to have been set on fire during the incident.

The post added that security reinforcements had been deployed to the area to secure the release of those trapped and restore calm.

Efforts are ongoing to determine the full details of the attack, as security forces have intensified operations in the area to prevent further incidents.
