Imo: Police Arrest Five Suspects, Recover Bodies Buried In Shallow Graves In Oguta Forest

The remains of some deceased individuals have been exhumed from shallow graves discovered within bushes in Orsuobodo, Oguta LGA Imo State.

The discovery followed an intensified operation carried out by the operatives of the State Police command in collaboration with other sister security agencies against criminal elements in the state.

Addressing Journalists after parading the suspects, the new Commissioner of police in the State, Audu Garba Bosso, said the discovery of the shallow graves followed the arrest of five kidnap suspects for their engagement in terrorism, kidnapping, murder and other violent crimes within Oguta axis.


The Police Commissioner, hinted that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in a series of kidnappings and murders leading to the discovery and exhumation of several corpses buried inside the forest.

He added that, some dangerous weapons were recovered from them, including, 10 firearms, 4 AK-47, 5 Pump Actions, 260 GPMG live ammunition, 280 live cartridges and others.

CP Bosso further revealed that in similar operations that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested 2 suspects, Amucha Nkemdirim Innocent and Michael Okafor, both of Umuakagu-Nsu in Ehime Mbano LGA, Imo State for their involvement in terrorism, kidnapping and murder in Umuakagu-Nsu Community and recovered 2 pump-action gun and nine rounds of live ammunition.

He pointed out that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the murder of one Onyebuchi Anthony Njoku in Umuakagu-Nsu, and the kidnapping of one Nnamdi Ali and one Ohaeri Nathaniel Onyema, who are currently being held hostage at the criminal’s den in Okigwe.

“Coordinated intelligence-led operation is ongoing to rescue the victims.

Furthering the operational breakthroughs is the arrest of Chinaemerem Ogamba of Ubaheze Omoma in Oru-East LGA in Imo State, for the murder of one Izanga, ‘m’ of Oru-East LGA and recovered 1 locally made pistol.

“The suspect confessed to being a member of the proscribed IPOB/ESN terrorists group and murdered the victim, who he alleged to have murdered his older brother, one Arinze Ogamba” the CP said.

The State Police Commissioner, also used the occasion to commend the officers and men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their bravery and professionalism, as well as other tactical teams that have continued to support in fighting crimes in the State.

He reiterated that the command remains resolute in its mission to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of all residents.
