Abia State Police Command has confirmed that its tactical teams, in collaboration with a community security outfit, rescued members of a family who were kidnapped by criminals on Sunday.
The rescue operation took place at Amakama, Umuahia South LGA of the state, according to the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka.
DSP Chinaka said the kidnapping incident was reported to the Ubakala Police Divisional Headquarters, prompting the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, to mobilize tactical teams to the area.
She disclosed that the tactical teams, in collaboration with the local security outfit of the Amakama community, went in search of the kidnapped victims, firing into the air.
“The suspects felt that those coming were more than them, and they abandoned their victims and ran away.
“The police, in collaboration with the local security, were able to rescue the family. The rescued victims are receiving treatment,” DSP Maureen Chinaka.
She added that the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
