Amotekun Apprehends Two Suspected Highway Robbers in Osun

The Osun Amotekun Corps has apprehended two suspected highway robbers, identified as 29 year old Chima Eze and 41 year old Sunday Okorie.

They were apprehended on Saturday during a routine patrol along the Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway at about 11:35 p.m. while allegedly attempting to rob a commercial vehicle transporting goods from Ibadan.

According to the statement by corps spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass on Monday, the suspects are natives of Ebonyi State but reside in Mowe, Ogun State.

“They were reportedly intercepted after security operatives received a distress alert from a driver who narrowly escaped an attempted ambush along the highway.

Preliminary reports indicated that the suspects, alongside other accomplices, had set up a trap on the expressway in an attempt to intercept the vehicle.

“The driver, however, managed to evade the ambush and alerted Amotekun operatives who were on routine patrol nearby.

“Upon receiving the information, the operatives immediately mobilised to the location. On sighting the security personnel, members of the gang reportedly abandoned the already robbed vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush.

“The Amotekun team pursued the fleeing suspects and successfully apprehended two of them, while two other members of the gang managed to escape from the scene.

“During preliminary interrogation, the arrested suspects reportedly confessed to being members of a four-man robbery gang operating along major highways.

“They allegedly disclosed that the group commenced their criminal activities in early 2025, targeting motorists and commercial vehicles travelling along major roads within the region,” the statement said.

The suspects were also reported to have admitted carrying out several robbery operations along the expressway prior to their arrest.

According to the corps, the suspects stated that they joined the gang after their street hawking business in Lagos failed to yield expected returns.

They disclosed that one of their accomplices, who remains at large, introduced them to highway robbery and coordinated some of their operations.

The suspects also told investigators that stolen items from motorists were transported to Lagos where they were sold.

The operatives later accompanied the suspects to their hideout located in an uncompleted building within a forest along the expressway.

Items reportedly recovered from the location included “cartons of solar lights, different types of baby clothes, two tape rules, one touch light and two long wooden objects.”

Amotekun Osun disclosed that the suspects would be handed over to the Department of State Services, DSS, for further interrogation and commencement of legal proceedings.
