Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled terrorists activities and recovered an AK-47 rifle during separate operations in Katsina State.
The development was contained in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to the report, the operations took place in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, where troops engaged suspected terrorists at different locations.
In Kankara, troops of the 17 Brigade operating from Forward Operating Base Mabai reportedly came under contact with suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol along the Kankara-Mabai Road at about 7:45 a.m. on March 15.
The encounter occurred near Ruwan Lafia crossing point, where the troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee. The fleeing suspects abandoned a motorcycle, which was later recovered by the troops.
In a separate operation in Malumfashi Local Government Area, troops responded to intelligence on terrorist activities at Ruwan Sanyi Village at about 11:10 p.m. on March 14.
On arrival, the troops engaged the terrorists, who fled with suspected gunshot wounds, as blood stains were seen around the area.
During a follow-up search, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Security sources said troops have continued to dominate the affected areas to prevent further attacks and deny the terrorists freedom of movement.
