In the life of institutions, there are moments when time seems to slow down—moments when routines give way to reflection and service is honoured with dignity. Such a moment unfolded within the Nigeria Police Force as the Force held a Pulling-Out Parade in honour of the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun on the 12th of March, 2026.
For many officers present, it was more than a ceremonial farewell. It was a moment of history, memory, and emotion wrapped into one. The Pulling-Out Parade, one of the most symbolic traditions in policing, represents the institution’s way of saying thank you to a leader who once carried the weight of command.

Yet beyond honouring the outgoing police chief, the ceremony also reflected the leadership philosophy of the current Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
By organising the Pulling-Out Parade for his predecessor, Disu made a bold statement about institutional respect and continuity. In doing so, he demonstrated that leadership is not diminished by honouring those who came before; rather, it is strengthened by it.

In many ways, the moment also reflected something that Disu had emphasised in his early days in office—his commitment to the welfare and morale of officers. By restoring a tradition that celebrates service and affirms institutional pride, he showed that welfare is not only about policies and benefits, but also about recognition, respect, and the preservation of the values that bind the Force together.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the symbolism remained clear. One Inspector-General had completed his journey in uniform, while another continues the task of leading the Force forward.
But the Pulling-Out Parade quietly reminded everyone present of an enduring truth: leadership may pass from one individual to another, yet the institution—and the ideals it represents—must always endure.
