Military thwarts abduction attempt in Sokoto village

Troops have successfully foiled a kidnap attempt in Gesa village, Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The incident was contained in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA responded to a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. on March 27.

The operation was carried out by personnel of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion, deployed at Forward Operating Base Sauna.

On arrival, the troops reportedly discovered that two armed men on a motorcycle had invaded the village and started shooting sporadically.

The attackers were reportedly trying to kidnap a nurse who had come to the community for a medical outreach programme.

However, the kidnappers reportedly fled the scene as soon as they spotted the approaching troops, abandoning their plan.

“The terrorists fled the scene, abandoning their mission,” Makama stated.

According to Makama, after the incident, the troops were said to have dominated the area to prevent further attacks and ensure safety of residents.

The troops also urged residents to always provide timely and credible information to help prevent such incidents.
