Ondo Amotekun parades 35 suspected kidnappers, others, impounds 120 motorcycles

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, says it arrested 11 suspects for kidnapping and 24 others for various offences across the state.

Ondo Amotekun Corps Commander, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, who disclosed this while parading the suspects before newsmen on Monday in Akure, said 19 of the suspects were apprehended for breaking of law and order.

Adeleye also said two of the suspects were arrested for rape, while three suspects, who were arrested for human trafficking, defrauded a victim of 1.4 million cedis.

“The victim, who was defrauded under the pretext of bringing someone from Togo to Nigeria to help her secure a Canadian visa, was held hostage for about two weeks before she managed to escape.

“She reported the matter at the Amotekun office and when operatives followed up, they were able to recover the money and the passports, which were returned to her, while she has been reunited with her family,” he said.

Adeleye added that said criminal activities had reduced significantly, especially with the enforcement of the ban on night-time use of commercial motorcyclists (okada).

The commander, who explained that sensitisation was ongoing to ensure full compliance, said the government had extended the registration period of Okada by seven days to allow riders to comply.

‎”So far, over 120 motorcycles have been impounded across the 18 local government areas for violating the ban. Enforcement continues while defaulters will be sanctioned according to the law.

‎”Additionally, about 14,000 Okada have registered across the 18 local government areas, and the registration process is still ongoing,” he said.
