Ogun Police arrest suspect over murder of motorcyclist in Igbesa

Ogun State Police command, on Wednesday, arrested one Chidi Ebere for the alleged murder of a motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state.

The suspect, aged 27, reportedly attacked the 36-year-old victim identified as Sunday Ogbu with a knife in an attempt to seize the bike.

According to a statement signed by the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday, the incident happened at about 7am.

Babaseyi explained that the suspect boarded the motorcycle operated by the victim, attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.

He noted that the victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

Babaseyi said, “Detectives of the Igbesa Division, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested Chidi Ebere ‘M’, aged 27, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ogun State.

“The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu ‘M’, aged 36, and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.

“A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”

The PPRO stated that the suspect had been arrested with the motorcycle and knife recovered as exhibits, adding that the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured members of the public that justice will be served.

Ojajuni urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police through the command emergency lines.
