Man arrested with human head, palms, exhumed from grave in Ogun

A 43 years old man identified as Idowu Ashafa has been apprehended by operatives of the Igbesa Police Division for the unlawful possession human parts and suspected ritual activities.

The suspect was nabbed in the early hours of Friday, during a routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solotan Owolabi.

Ashafa was intercepted with a nylon bag containing a fresh human head, two human palms, and other human remains.

He was alleged to have exhumed the remains from a grave at Ido Itekun Village, Igbesa, for ritual purposes.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, noted that the instrument used in carrying out the act has been recovered, and the scene was visited for documentation.

He said, “Operatives of the Igbesa Division, under the supervision of the Area Commander, ACP Folashade Tanaruno, arrested a 43-year-old male suspect, Idowu Ashafa, for unlawful possession of human parts and suspected ritual activities.

“The arrest was made in the early hours of April 17, 2026, during a routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solotan K. Owolabi, where the suspect was intercepted in possession of a fresh human head, two human palms, and other human remains concealed in a nylon bag.

“The instrument used in committing the act was recovered, while the scene was visited and documented.”

The PRO disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and likely prosecution.

He assured the public of the command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements, urging them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
