Troops repel terrorist attack in Sokoto

Troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists in Garin Hillo Village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The incident was revealed in a post shared on X on Sunday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the attack happened in the early hours of April 17 when troops stationed at a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gatawa received reports of terrorist activities in the area.

“The troops quickly moved to the location, where they encountered the attackers and engaged them in a gun battle. The terrorists were eventually forced to retreat under pressure from the military,” Makama wrote.

Further details indicated that about 30 armed assailants had entered the village on foot, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.

As a result of the attack, six civilians were injured. The victims were later evacuated to the General Hospital in Sabon Birni, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Makama revealed that troops have since maintained a strong presence in the area, carrying out patrols to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.
