…Recover 26 Firearms, Dangerous Weapons and Cultist Paraphernalia

The Lagos State Police Command has thwarted suspected plans by rival cult groups to unleash violence across parts of the state, arresting 135 suspected cultists during coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and black spots.

The operation, carried out by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), was conducted on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, following credible intelligence of planned cult-related attacks associated with the annual 7/7 cult celebration and initiation activities.

According to the Command, intelligence reports indicated that rival cult groups were mobilising for violent confrontations and other criminal activities, prompting the simultaneous raids across several locations in the state.

The operation led to the recovery of 26 firearms, 16 dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, battle axes, daggers and knives, as well as cult insignia, assorted charms, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs. Six mobile phones and several bottles of alcoholic drinks were also recovered.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal gangs, while the suspects currently in custody will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

The Command, under the leadership of CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive measures aimed at preventing violent crimes and maintaining public safety across Lagos State.
