Two Fulani herdsmen have been arrested by troops of the Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, following an alleged attack on farmers who were harvesting their crops in Sabon Layi, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A security source who confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Friday said they were nabbed after some residents made distress calls to soldiers stationed close to the village.
The source said following the distress calls, troops were deployed to the affected area and upon their arrival, they found an elderly woman who had sustained serious injuries during the attack.
He added that two of the suspects were arrested while others fled the area.
“The troops arrested two suspected herders while other members of the group reportedly fled the area. The injured woman was evacuated to the Missionary Hospital in Sabon Layi for medical attention.
“The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Keystone Mangu Divisional Police Command for further investigation and necessary legal action,” he added.
