Suspected vandal arrested in Bauchi, stolen electricity cables recovered

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected vandal and recovered a large quantity of stolen electricity cables in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Mustapha Abubakar, was arrested on August 25, 2026, during a police operation in the Kara area of Bunza town.

The operation followed concerns over the theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the area, which has affected electricity supply to some communities.

Police operatives recovered 10 bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables during the operation.

The suspect was subsequently arraigned before a court, according to the state Police Command.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the recovery was part of the command’s efforts to curb the theft and vandalism of critical infrastructure in the state.

He said the command remained committed to protecting public infrastructure and bringing those involved in the theft and vandalism of electricity facilities to justice.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
