The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Balarabe Adamu over the alleged defilement of his eight-month-old stepdaughter in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The Command said the incident was reported on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 5:34 p.m.
According to the police, Adamu, a resident of Lame in Toro LGA, allegedly sexually abused the infant after she was brought to his residence by his wife.
“The baby was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment following the alleged incident,” the police said.
The Command’s operatives attached to the Gumau Division subsequently responded to the report and arrested the suspect.
He is currently in police custody while investigation into the allegation continues.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as unacceptable.
He assured the public that the police would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted if the allegation is established.
“The case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion, in accordance with the law,” the Commissioner said.
The Commissioner also reiterated the Command’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards sexual violence and child abuse.
He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse to the nearest police station.
The police said further updates on the investigation would be made public in due course.
