Police arrest ex-convict ‘Timaya’ over robbery of POS operators in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over alleged motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point of Sale (POS) operators in Awka.

The arrest follows the circulation of a video showing suspected armed robbers attacking POS operators at Aroma Junction in Awka and carting away their cash.

Following the viral video, the police launched an investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest during an intelligence-led operation on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, 2026.

Items recovered from the suspect include a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items believed to be linked to the alleged crimes.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect is currently in police custody.

Ikenga further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect’s alleged accomplices.
