Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the state government, has launched a joint security operation aimed at combating the alarming rise of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu on Thursday.
According to the statement, during recent raids on black spots and criminal hideouts, 303 suspects were arraigned in court, while 3 alleged drug barons are undergoing discreet investigation at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Yobe State Command.
“Drug abuse can lead to addiction and dependency, physical and mental health problems, increased risk of crime and violence, strained relationships and social isolation, and long-term consequences for education and career prospects.
“To combat this menace, we urge the public to educate themselves and others about the risks of drug abuse, seek help if they or someone they know is struggling with addiction, support community initiatives and programs promoting drug abuse prevention, and report suspicious activities or drug-related crimes to the authorities”, the Command said.
The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, in the statement, expressed strong commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking, pledging that the command will continue to work with stakeholders to provide support services, conduct awareness campaigns, and enforce laws to protect citizens.
