Gunmen storm Gombe community, kill resident in failed kidnap attempt

A night of terror gripped Kwami community in Gombe State after suspected kidnappers launched an attack on Sunday, killing a resident identified as Adamu Commander in the process.

According to eyewitnesses, residents of Kwami had mobilized upon learning of the intruders’ presence, attempting to resist the attack before the gunmen could carry out their mission.

Despite the community’s efforts, the armed assailants reportedly overpowered them.

Tragically, Adamu Commander was captured during the confrontation and killed in cold blood. Sources said the attackers slit his throat before escaping under the cover of darkness.

The victim, described as a respected member of the community, is survived by two wives.

His death has not only left his family in deep grief but has also unsettled many in the area, where concerns about rising insecurity continue to mount.

“This incident has shaken everyone here,” a resident told reporters.

“We tried to defend ourselves, but the gunmen were heavily armed. Now we have lost one of our own. People are living in fear.”

Locals are appealing to security agencies and the government to take swift action to strengthen protection for rural communities increasingly vulnerable to such assaults.
