Police Arrest Officers Over Alleged Unlawful Shooting in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested three of its personnel for allegedly shooting dead a 20-year-old bus conductor during a routine stop-and-search in Igabi Local Government Area.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Sunday night after a distress call was received from Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital.

According to the sources, one Abdulrashid Dayyabu of Maje Village, Maraban Jos, had rushed to the hospital in a white J5 bus (registration number LSD 190 YE) with a passenger who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim, later identified as Nasir Abdulhakim, was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the bus was flagged down by officers of Millennium City Police Division along Kujama road, but the driver allegedly tried to evade arrest, leading to a chase. In the process, one of the officers fired at the vehicle, striking the conductor in the chest.

The remains of the deceased have been released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites, following the family’s request that no autopsy be conducted.

Police authorities confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
