Two shot dead in suspected cult shooting in Lagos community

Two yet-to-be-identified men have been confirmed dead following a suspected cult-related shooting in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, said the victims were discovered after gunshots rang out near the Ikota Complex, leaving the neighbourhood in panic.

The incident, according to him, happened on Tuesday night when armed men suddenly descended on the busy location and opened fire indiscriminately.


The attack caused widespread chaos as residents, shop owners and passersby fled in different directions to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

“When the shooting started, everyone around Ikota Complex took off. It was when calm returned that two young men were found lying lifeless in separate spots,” the source said.

He added that closer checks revealed that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds.

An anti-cultism advocacy group, Naija Confra, later confirmed via a post on Wednesday that the shooting was connected to a clash between rival cult groups.

According to the group, members of the Aye confraternity launched the attack, reportedly targeting two persons, though the identities of the victims remain unknown.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, could not be reached for comments as calls to her mobile line went unanswered.

A text message sent to her had also not been acknowledged as of the time of filing this report.
