Police Repel Bandits’ Attack, Recover 329 Rustled Cattle, 175 Sheep, AK-47 Rifle in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command says its operatives have repelled a bandits’ attack and recovered 329 rustled cattle, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition during a joint security operation in Gumi Local Government Area of the state.

Sources disclosed on Saturday, that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with military personnel.

According to the statement, the operation took place on June 20, at about 2:30 a.m., at Gambanda Forest in Gumi LGA following credible intelligence on the movement of armed bandits in the area.

The joint security team reportedly engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, during which superior firepower and coordinated tactical response forced the criminals to abandon their mission and flee into the forest with possible gunshot injuries.

The sources added that the operatives successfully recovered 329 rustled cattle and 175 sheep during the operation, in addition to one AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism and resilience in repelling the attack and achieving what he described as a significant operational breakthrough.

Bello reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against banditry and other violent crimes, with a view to restoring lasting peace and security across Zamfara State.

He urged members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information that would aid ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements from their hideouts.

The Commissioner assured residents that the Command, in synergy with other security agencies, would not relent until banditry and other related crimes are significantly reduced in the state.
