Police arrest 25 suspects, recover cannabis, controlled drugs in Jos raid

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects during a coordinated raid on identified drug hotspots in Jos, the state capital.

The operation targeted areas around Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction, which police described as well-known centres for the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the operation was carried out on Saturday evening at about 7:55 p.m.

He said the raid was led by a joint security team under the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), with support from officers of the Anglo-Jos Division, Anti-Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, Monitoring Unit, and the Eagle Eye Patrol Team.

SP Alabo explained that 25 suspects were arrested during the operation, while cannabis, controlled drugs, and other prohibited substances were recovered from the scene.

“The exercise was successful, and a number of illicit substances were seized from the suspects,” the statement noted.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to determine the level of involvement of the suspects and to uncover possible links to wider criminal networks.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, commended the officers involved in the raid and praised their commitment to fighting drug-related crimes in the state.
